You can see the contents of the backup using nsrinfo:

#  mminfo -av -c <client> -N "SYSTEM STATE:\\"
--- grab the ssid for one of the save sets from the output
#  mminfo -av -q ssid=<ssid> -r nsavetime
--- then run nsrinfo on that...
# nsrinfo -t <nsavetime> <client>

This will show you all of the files backed as part of the System State.  As
was already stated, this save set is primarily used for Bare Metal Recovery.
