In regard to: [Networker] setting a barcode on a volume, Francis Swasey...:
I have a tape that five years ago was in a jukebox with a barcode
reader. We've since replaced that jukebox and no longer have the
ability to read the barcode. I recently had to run "scanner -m" on the
tape and now have a media database that has the contents of the tape,
but has forgotten what the barcode of the tape is (here barcode should
be thought of as the human readable label on the outside of the tape).
Sadly, the barcode is different from the internal volume label.
Is there a way to update the media database with the barcode on this volume?
I've read the scanner and nsrmm man pages several times and done various
google searches without success.
I'm not aware of any publicly available tools that would do that. EMC
might have internal tools that could do that, but I doubt they would ever
share them.
I'm confused though. If you don't have a jukebox that could read the
barcode anyway, why worry about the barcode in the media database? Especially
if it's a tape someone manually deleted previously anyway.
