Hi,

I was told that Lotus notes client need an agent for the live db backup. I ran a test backup without the module and almost everything got picked up (except ~notes.lck file ) successfully by the Networker.

All .NSF and .NTF files were backedup without stopping any services on the client.

Is it advicable to use the module ? want to know what is needed and if it works well.

Yes, it's advisable to use the module. While test backups, and 'early' backups of Notes will frequently work without the module, as the database gets more busy/active, more files will be dropped.

Though I think a more honest answer is - at the minimal cost of the Lotus Notes module, do you really want to trust 'raw' filesystem backups to protect what I presume would be business-critical data, when using a module would be so cheap?

If you're not going to use a module, make sure you use another suitable quiescent backup - e.g., snapshots with Domino temporarily shutdown, or offline cluster nodes with replica copies, etc.

Cheers,

Preston.
