here is what the EMC rep told me.

the SYSVOL directory will not be backed up using file system backup method as 
it is reserved by Windows AD services.   The SYSVOL directory is part of the 
SYSTEM STATE or VSS SYSTEM BOOT saveset and is part of the saveset 'All'.   

In other words, you can't do a granular backup of anything in the SYSVOL 
directory.  It is basically an all or nothing type of backup, not a pick and 
choose type of backup.

His suggestion was to create a batch file to copy any files to a different 
folder that you might want to be able to back up individually.  I know someone 
else here had that same suggestion!  :)
