Hit Thorsten, please could you provide data with performance, and your
configuration, etc.

Sun has told me that there is a performance problem with the machine due to
limitations on the pci bus, and that it is
Impossible to obtain more of 1.3 gigabits of speed with this server and this
card (using jumbo frames). The result: the performance is similar to a gigabit
card.

I have done several tests without jumbo-frames, and I have only obtained
between 1 and 1.1 gigabits of transfer.

I have filed a bug with Sun and for several months I haven't obtained any
practical result except this final answer: The bottleneck is the slot pci of
the SunFireV890

It seems that there is a bug: 6440486 (confidential, I haven't access to this),
that it describes the problems of performance of this machine with this card.

I would be interested if you can provide me the tunning you have done with this
card, etc. because I am very fustrated with Sun with the purchase of this card.

This is the configuration of my system:

1- The card is pluggend on the PCI-bus of 64 bits 66 Mhz of the machine.
2- The system has 8 processors UltraSparc IV 1.350 Mhz with 32 GB of memory

Best regards

 Hi Jose,

I Disagree. We use 2 Sun V890 as well, each equipped as follows:
4 * US IV+ 15000 MHz cpu's,
16 GB Mem,
4 * 2 GB Sun-branded EMULEX HBA's,
1 * SUNW qlc (4*Gbit NIC),
2 * 1 GE NIC
1 * 10 GBE PCI-X

Running Networker 7.4.3 Build 569.

One Hoste is doing the networker Server Part and the other is a storage node,
performing cloning jobs (we have additional Storagenodes, performing Backup's
as well).

We have no performance problems and the environment is running very stable.

But I agree that a T2000 is really a catapult, compare to the "old" V890. I
just don't know how many HBA's and/or NIC's could be installed (from Bus/Slot
point of fiew) and handled.

Regards

Thorsten

We have a SunFire V890 (old server) with the ixge interface from Sun (10
Gbits) with Data Protector (not Networker).

We have many problems with the performance: The PCI-bus is a bottleneck in this
machine (66 Mhz 64 bits), and the ixge driver from Sun is very unstable (The
network interfaces hangs if there packets are dropped, and there is to reboot
the server).

With newer machines (PCI Express), the performance must be better. I have read
good experiencies with T2000 machines.
