Speaking from a person that has had to do this (Hurricane Katrina), I
sure wish EMC/Legato would come up with a way to do a backup (and
recover) of both indexes and media databases. Certainly in this day and
age, there should be some kind of way to do it.

There's nothing like being stressed out beyond belief - think any
disaster -, and then having to recover 150 indexes - and that's after
you rebuilt your Networker server, and done the mmrecov.

EMC/Legato needs to learn to build a better mouse trap. (my opinion)

It entirely depends on what you want to achieve. If you're scanning
tapes in to a disaster recovery server - i.e., this isn't to transfer
tapes from one NetWorker server to another, but within the disaster
recovery datazone, then your best bet is to run mmrecov on the DR
server to bring back in your bootstrap details, then from there run an
index recovery - nsrck -L7 clientName.

If however you're wanting to regularly transfer media between one
NetWorker server and another, scanner is the way you need to go.

Cheers,

Preston.
