In regard to: [Networker] Auto Media Management Question, psoni said (at...:

I have enabled auto media management for the tape library.

Got the following error message in the logs for one of the backup jobs
this morning.

Suggest manually labeling a new writable volume in to the media pool.

I am assuming that it should have automatically labeled any of the
unlabeled volumes and loaded into the media pool.

That's correct. It should have.

How were those volumes deposited into the library? Did you manually
populate the slots in the library with the tape volumes, or did you
instead put the volumes into some kind of load port (often called a "cap"
or "mail slot") for the jukebox and then use the nsrjb command to move
the volumes from the load port(s) into slot(s)? The second procedure
(using nsrjb with the "-d" (deposit) command) is the recommended way to
deposit volumes into a library.

Is NetWorker waiting for a tape volume right now? If it is waiting for
a volume, what happens if you tell nsrjb to inventory (-I) and initialize
the library element status (-E) of just a couple of the tape slots that
have unlabelled tapes in them? For example, if you believe the tapes in
slots 72 and 73 are blank tapes, what happens if you ask NetWorker to
inventory those two slots:

        nsrjb -IEv -S 72-73 -j your_jukebox_name_here

You will get read errors when NetWorker tries to read the label it looks
for at the beginning of the tape, but as long as you're only inventorying a
couple slots, that's no problem. Once those slots have been inventoried,
does NetWorker notice that there's now a blank tape available and then
label it and begin using it automatically?
