This may be fixed. I am running a "test" group of qtrees and they are working.
 
This sounds weird, but I opened up the client configuration for my NDMP clients 
and rentered the password and then when I clicked OK on the configuration it 
took a long time, but eventually saved the configuration.

I'll keep my fingers crossed and see what happens to tonight's backup.
