System upgrades on our Mac & Linux desktops, which included upgrades of the JRE to 1.5.0_16, broke the NMC. We now get "Unable to launch NetWorker Management Console". Clicking on details:

Title: NetWorker Management Console
Vendor: EMC Corporation
Category: Unexpected Error

Undefined product taskbar: Please clear the Java Web Start cache and relaunch the application

Of course we clear the cache and get the same thing. Anybody else having this problem? Is there a solution other than going to a different version of JRE? I have a case open with EMC, but this will probably drag on for weeks/months ...

I'm struggling with Java (in)compatibility at the moment because of this set-up - The NMC has to be 7.3.3. to match the Storage Node and Client software on the box, but the GUI then doesn't work with Java 1.6 (or 1.5?) on Windows...

Java 5 should work with the NMC from NetWorker 7.3.3. Java 6 won't, as you have discovered.

Later versions of NetWorker will work with Java 6, I think 7.4.2 is probably the first version to work with Java 6, although it could be 7.4.3.
