The native capacity of SDLT320 tapes is 160GB.   

 If your data is uncompressible (eg mp3 jpg, some pst,  zip gzip etc)
then you might expect to see only 120Gb because SDLT compression does
the wrong thing and makes compressed data bigger.

i agree with what you say davina..What i wanted to say was that in the
tapes which has 320 GB capacity...it stored only 120 ( on an avg) for
the filer. But if the whole capacity of the filer is 1.2 TB which is
uncompressed, it should be filled in 3-4 tapes ( 320 * 4= 1.3 Tb
approx).

Every1 says that the sdlt tapes is having uncompressed capacity of 320
GB. So what my real question is that cant 320 GB of data go in the tape
which will ultimately help me in reducing the number of tapes.
