[Apologies if this appears off-topic, but Symantec's documentation is not very
helpful regarding licenses. There is a call pending.]
Current system:
-Solaris/SPARC 8
-VxVM/VxFS 3.5 /w DMP failover for a STK FlexStore 280 controller (30 TB of
concat devices under Veritas control)
-All Veritas disk from the Flex unit is mounted as adv_file devices
Target system:
-Solaris 10/SPARC
Plan: Convert all adv_file on VxVM to one giant ZFS pool, with DMP replaced by
the Sol-10 Multipath driver. This is to remove one vendor from the backup
environment, and make provisioning the storage (at server level) a hell of a
lot easier.
Issues and Questions:
-> I apparently need to install Veritas 4.1+ on the target server, since that
is the minimum for Sol-10. However, there's no explanation regarding the
licenses - only that an older one should work as long as its 'not expired.'
What the heck does that mean??? All our licenses on the portal are reported as
3.5 or 4.0 at this point...
-> Some of my existing adv_file can be blasted and converted immediately, some
will take nearly a year unless I can accelerate the process. The main problem
is a 15 TB filesystem that I'd like to convert 'quickly.' I've done this
before via cloning, but would prefer something a bit faster. Any other
suggestions as to how, preferably on a live adv_file device?
This issue has placed our Networker upgrade on hold until I find a reasonable
(inexpensive/free) resolution, so help is greatly appreciated (even if
off-list).
Thanks, and Have Fun,
--TSK
