I would really like to get some feedback on this...

I'll try to boil it down to a couple simple questions.

1) What is the highest number of clients you've had backing up to a
single datazone, and what roughly was the configuration of that
datazone(#storagenodes, etc..).
2) Does anyone have a clear idea on any limitations that might "creep"
up as a problem for a single datazone?
3) What is the largest amount of indexes you've had with a single
datazone?

Any feedback would be much appreciated... we have a long(18month) budget
cycle. So, I want to make sure I am prepared.

Thanks,

Joel

Hey Guys/Gals,

I've heard different numbers based on who I've talked to about how large
a single datazone can grow, and what causes that limitation.

I'm basically trying to gather information from you folks who have
managed very large installs to find out when I need to budget for a
second datazone. A networker presales rep said I was already past what
they recommended for one datazone. But that was 2 years ago and the
environment has been growing and running strong since. I'm afraid
though that I'm going to hit some limit, mid budget cycle and be out
luck money wise to fix it.

We probably won't scale much larger client# wise, but the amount of data
we're backing up per clients is growing like crazy. An advice, on how
to plan long term would be appreciate. Best design to handle large
environment/best OS for server/etc..

I really prefer to stay Sun SPARC, but the processor speed might be a
problem down the road. Unless they make some major leaps. Anyone know
if there will be support in the future for Solaris x64 server and an STK
silo?

Our current environment is below.

Single Networker 7.2.2 datazone

Index Server Sun V880 running Solaris 9 ( soon to be replaced with a
T5220)

Storage Node Sun E450 running Solaris 9 ( soon to be replaced with a
T2000)

2 netapp filers backed up via NDMP

1 STK9310 silo w/ 10 9940B drives(shared)

50TB or adv_file devices ( soon to be increased to ~100TB)

Will be adding a 20TB(~200TB deduped) Diligent VTL in the next couple of
months.

~400 clients mostly windows

~200TB a month backed up

All backup servers and most clients reside in 2 datacenters connected
via DWDM links over multiple dark fiber.

Thanks!

Joel
