Oh yes - it's a big shock to the system if you have scripts watching
daemon.log for regexps...

Out of the box you just get daemon.raw, but mentioned on this list a few
times now about making a change to the nsrla resource in nsrexecd - you
can get it to keep writing a 'rendered' version to daemon.log (for
english locales roughly equates to turning the unixtime stamp to a
readable local time string).

But the log is utterly different in nature - some messages you used to
only see in the gui (from those NSR resource fields) can now be seen via
logging, some other messages you may once have relied on no longer
appear - it's possible that by altering the notification resources you
can make them re-appear but I have not had enough experience of a live
7.4 system to be able to say yet. I'm sure we'll all learn more over
time.

The savegroup reporting is also mightily mucked around with, there were
some mistakes at first but 7.4.2 is pretty well cleaned up - the
NO_SUPPRESS trick that was needed to see all messages was taken away in
7.4, but now returned, but things are not exactly the same..

If you don't have NO_SUPPRESS and see lines referring to extra details
being put off in little tempfiles under /nsr/tmp you can at least get
the script to go and re-integrate those lines back into your reports, I
tried that and it works quite well.

I haven't had a chance to look at 7.4 yet, but I'm hearing lots of
rumors that the usual commands/sources (e.g. the daemon.log) that one
would use to do your own reporting are either gone or significantly
changed in 7.4. (I've heard, for example, tape drive info no longer
goes there, but I haven't confirmed anything.)

Can anyone confirm/deny?

Is anyone doing their own reporting using the command line? If so, how
have things changed in 7.4?

(Note: I don't want a GUI answer. I want scripts! Give me scripts!)
