I have an SDLT-320 library. Last week, I added a SDLT-600 library. I then
set one of my pools (a CLONE pool) to be assigned *only* to the tape
drives in the SDLT-600 library (reason: I want the CLONE jobs to only
write to those new, higher density tapes). I assigned a different pool to
the SDLT-320 (well, it was already there, I just left it alone)
So today I needed to do a restore off some old CLONE tapes (meaning I need
to run "scanner -i" on them, since the browse time had expired, and I need
like 2 dozen directories off the tape. And not knowing all the exact
names, I can't just do a directed restore, I need to browse and find
them).
Anyways, I load the SDLT-320 tape into the SDLT-600 library, and tried to
do a "scanner" command. I got the error below:
C:\PHA Scripts>scanner -i -S 3031416567 \\.\Tape3
8909:scanner: using '\\.\Tape3' as the device name
8936:scanner: scanning sdlt600 tape 1127153511 on \\.\Tape3
8938:scanner: sdlt600 tape 1353236035 for volume 1127153511 conflicts with
existing
media database entry for sdlt320 tape 1353236035
(Tape3 is a SDLT-600 drive, in the new library)
I sort of understand why this happens. What I need some advice on is ...
Ideally, I'd like to be able to do restores of these older SDLT-320 tapes
in this SDLT-600 library. At the moment, I'm getting around the problem by
assigning tape drives in the SDLT-320 library to my CLONE pool. But I'd
rather not leave it like that, since I want all my CLONE jobs to write
only to the SDLT-600 library.
How can I configure NetWorker to allow me to be able to do scanner/recover
of SDLT-320 tapes in the SDLT-600 library, but jobs in the CLONE pool
should only write to the SDLT-600 (and not the SDL-320)
NetWorker 7.4.2, on Win2003 SP2.
Pool PRD assigned to devices in SDLT-320 library
Pool CLONE assigned to devices in SDLT-600 library
I would like to be able to do a scanner/recover of either old CLONE tapes
(which are SDLT-320) in the SDLT-600. Or, if need be, scanner/recover the
PRD tapes (which are SDLT-320) in the SDLT-600, but only write the PRD to
the SDLT-320.
I don't want to write a SDLT-320 tape in a SDLT-600 library. And
obviously, I can't scanner/recover a SDLT-600 tape in a SDLT-320 library.
Hope I haven't been too confusing. :-) Any help appreciated.
