Wondering whether anyone else has run up NetWorker 7.3.4 on Linux yet?
If so, I'd be curious as to whether someone can confirm my experience. I ran
up NetWorker 7.3.4 on 2 lab machines, one previously running 7.3.3, and one
new, and on both when I run "nsrim -X" it crashes:
[root@earlgrey nw734]# nsrim -X
*** glibc detected *** nsrim: free(): invalid pointer: 0xbf921af0 ***
Clearly a bug in NetWorker. However, you can make glibc's memory
allocation more forgiving of bad behavior by setting the MALLOC_CHECK_
environment variable.
Try doing
MALLOC_CHECK_=1
export MALLOC_CHECK_
nsrim -X
You will still get warnings, but it may no longer crash.
It might be best to set and export that environment variable in the
environment that the NetWorker daemons start from too, and then check
dmesg
after the daemons have been running for a day or so, to see if other
NetWorker components are also exhibiting incorrect memory management.

So if someone else has installed 7.3.4 on Linux I'd be interested if you see
the same behaviour. I'd tried on both SLES and RHEL.
Obviously the implication of nsrim crashing is volumes don't become
recyclable.
