I'm running into the EXACT same problem as the OP. I put the VCB scripts in
log level 6 and from the output, itwas pretty clear that it's failing after the
savegrp command is sent. ESX shows that the snap and copy was successful, and
it's all down to savegrp.
I have had success with 7.4.1 and ESX 3.5 VCB using the old Proxy method,
backing all of the VMs up at once with multiple Save set entries; however, this
is not ideal, as I find it difficult to locate some of the save sets because of
the way NW bundles them, so I can't let only some users access their vms
without giving them access to everything else. I know you can use aliases at
the DNS level, in order to trick NW; however I'd like to try the new methods in
the EMC release notes for 7.4.1, as it looks like it will also provide indexing
capabilities for the saveset(s).
The latest docs form EMC and VMware show a method where you can create a client
in NW for each vm, and then set the proxy settings in the client properties for
each client to "VCB", thus using the proxy only for the VCB commands, but
letting the client run individually, and scheduled individually for each vm,
based upon group membership.
the documentation is very limited on the process, so any help is appreciated.
We'll get this working together ;)
Here's the output from NW (MW server for Linux 7.4.1, running on SUSE. I'm
going to try to tweak the main VCB script so I can get a hold of the exact
command it sends to savegrp. Like I said, this same VCB proxy WORKS with the
old methods, but not with the new client-based methods I see in the new docs.
