I have to say that we've been using 8mm form factor backup tapes ever
since we quit using reel to reel tapes. Currently we are using AIT-4.
In over 15 years of using these kinds of tapes we've had few problems.
So while it appears most of the people on the listserv do use LT tapes
don't dismiss the other possibilities out of hand.

BTW, we also for a while had some DLT tapes (the originals from Digital
on Vaxes) so I know a bit about them. Generally we had less trouble
with the 8mm's.
