  For Solaris:

# cat /etc/rc2.d/S93nettwicks
#!/bin/sh

# Helps to solve RPC errors under heavy load.

 /usr/sbin/ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_conn_req_max_q 1024
 /usr/sbin/ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_conn_req_max_q0 2048

# Should help with backups thru firewall

 /usr/sbin/ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_keepalive_interval 600000

I am sure I saw similar solutions for Linux and Windows.

If your firewall is a PIX you could try adding:

timeout conn 6:00:00

Thanks Dana,
I have thought of the "firewall possibility". I think there was a
"nsr_wait_timeout_something..." you could put in the system variables to let
Networker continue communicating on the control ports to keep them open.

Anybody have the complete solution on top of their desk? ;-)

Hans,

I have seen this when at the end of the backup the client fails to
indicate to Networker that it is finished. So if you have a retry count
set to 2 than you get two sets. In some cases it was permission related,
in other cases it was Network/Firewall related. The Firewall closed the
control ports over which flows backup status information. Networker
establishes these connections when the backup starts and keeps them open
for the duration of the backup. If the connections are dropped than the
end result is a resending of the same data. You may see messages
indicating that the backup failed but if you fire up the client you are
able to browse the backed up data. You can also see the data on the
volume used for backup.
What flags do you see on the savesets? "ca" maybe?

Thanks,

Dana

Subject: double FULL savesets from vmware client

Hi,

Having trouble with 3 vmware clients. Looks like i get double savesets
when
the full backup runs. We are running Networker 7.1.4 on both VM-clients
(3)
and Backupserver. OS are win 2003.
Any suggestions?

Hans
