SAVEPNPC is probably what you're looking for.

We use that on a few systems here to shutdown various apps and restart
them after the backup.

Things may have changed but in the dim and distant past (v6 of
Networker), the one problem I found with it was that while it works if
savsets are specified as 'All', it doesn't work as expected where
specific partitions are listed to backup. I found that it would do
something like...
o Shutdown the app
o backup partition 1
o startup the app
o shutdown the app
o backup partition 2
o startup the app
etc.

Which in our case (or anyone else for that matter!) was not good.
Seems to work OK if ALL is specified though (and I always prefer to use
ALL in case a partition gets added and forgotten about ie not added in
to the backup schedule).

I've not tested it recently so can't say whether this behaviour has
changed, and basically I don't need to as we always use ALL.

Cheeers... Allan

Sorry if this thread is a bit vague to you specialists out there.

Networker is not my area of expertise. I am not getting anything useful
out of the internal team so i thought I would post here.

I basically want to run a command to "freeze" the filesystem being
backed up then "thaw" the file system after the backup has completed.

We are using networker 7.3.3 on solaris 10.

Is there an easy way to tell the runtimes programatically in a shell
script?

Or even better - get networker to to issue the commands on my behalf?

thanks
mark
