Happy New Year all!
At my place of enjoyment we run Networker 7.3.3 on Solaris 2.8. We have
been backing up our indexes for years using lockfs -w <filesystem>
/metaoffline dx dx / lockfs -u <filesystem>, doing a ufsdump to SDLT media
over a 1GB network link, and then onlining the mirror. The whole process
takes somewhere between 18 and 23 hours. Our indexes are getting close to
200GB and the time it takes to sync the mirrors after the ufsdump has
completed is quickly approaching the next run of the backup.
To nip this in the butt, has anyone used the Solaris's fssnap to perform
index backups? This looks like a good way to perform the index backups.
In thinking about this, I am wondering how much space will be required for
the backend-store, and whether or not Networker will take kindly to this.
Any insight you may have is appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith Roy
