This still happens occasionally also on my 7.3 clients and server
installated windows machines, its not even consistent. Most of the times
the backups runs as 1 set but sometimes it splits them into 2 GB chunks.
And No there is no old software installed.

one way to restore and verify if it is ok is to look for the starting
ssid where the pssid (parent ssid) is 0.

mminfo -q'pssid=0,client=...,!incomplete,!ssrecycle,.....'
- -r'ssid,pssid,cloneid,ssflags,clflags,client,volume,pool,name,level,.....'
