Thought I'd give an update to this.
This was the original problem I reported...
Client config: Windows 2000, Networker Client 7.2.2, Oracle 8.1.7, NMO
version 4.1
Networker Server: Solaris 9, Networker 7.3.3
A "hot" Oracle backup of about 70GB is taking around 10 hrs since upgrading
to 7.3.3 on our Networker server. This is clearly unacceptable and we are
getting very little feedback from EMC
When we were on Server version 7.2.1 it took about an hour. There was no
change other than the upgrade to 7.3.3
I found, by accident, that running snoop on the Networker server made the
backup run much faster, ie at normal speed.
We were recommended to make a change yesterday to do with "strong
authentication", as below....
Disable the nsrauth (Strong Authentication) on the backup server. Please
follow the following steps to disable the nsrauth:
nsradmin -p nsrexec
Use the "help" command for help, "visual" for full-screen mode.
nsradmin> . type: NSRLA
Current query set
nsradmin> show auth methods
nsradmin> p
auth methods: "0.0.0.0/0,nsrauth/oldauth";
nsradmin> update auth methods: "0.0.0.0/0,oldauth"
auth methods: "0.0.0.0/0,oldauth"; Update? y updated
resource id 3.0.156.101.198.4.188.67.137.69.101.64(137)
nsradmin> p
auth methods: "0.0.0.0/0,oldauth";
After turning off nsrauth, restart nsrexecd service is required.
Strong authentication was implemented in 7.3.3.
Anyway, disabling it has had several effects:
Made the Oracle backup go slightly faster. Also, snoop no longer has an
effect on the speed.
A few other "funnies" that we were experiencing with 7.3.3 seem to have
gone away (early days perhaps!). The worst of these funnies was tape
mounts sometimes taking hours to complete. And we were getting many
inactivity timeouts. These have gone away.
