Tim,

Thanks again. It's late enough in the day that I'm not going to try it
until tomorrow. I'll try the nsrck -L7 and report back on how that
works. Too bad you can't define multiple instances of a device like you
can a client :)

Another thought though. If I deleted the volume could I use scanner to
re-add it without changing the device type? Don't know if I want to do
that since there are more clients on the tape than the one I'm
interested it but it would be good to know.

It *might* be, but I'm not as certain there. I know (from experience)
what the scanner problem is. If you have to redefine the drive anyway,
you might try the -L7 again and see if it makes a difference having
the drive type redefined. You would answer the question and potentially
save yourself quite a bit of time too. I would also try using nsavetime
rather than the quoted date and time -- that *should* work, but we all
know that different versions of NetWorker have different quirks.

If you're very careful, it would be possible to redefine the drive type
without a delete/add cycle, but that's not something I would recommend
unless you're desparate to avoid a couple delete/add cycles.
