oops, you are 100% right i misread the e-mail... sorry... Alan was the one who ask ...

Alan, maybe VXFS could help, seems to be available or was available at some time , on linux, maybe vxfs on linux and vxfs on solaris can be a solution, expensive one i belive.

Thanks Marcello;

You have your attributions wrong. I did not ask the question; I responded to it.

Stan,
we had a file system and tapes on the linux sn and file systems and tapes on the solaris server, we stage on both machines, sharing the same SCSI library STK-L80, the only gotcha is to set the block size to a fixed size on storage node and server drives.

if you need more info, please contactme off list to go into details, if needed.

Also, as you said the only solution to had the same FS on solaris and linux is to share from a third server using NFS... but... i wouldn't do it.... just don't like NFS for I/O heavy operations. there are plans to supports zfs on linux.. but in the future :|.......

We have a scenario in which we would like to have a storage node running Linux backing up to a SAN disk, and then unmounting that SAN disk and attaching it to our Sun server for staging to tape or some other media pool. One of the biggest issues with this scenario is the seeming lack of compatible filesystems between Solaris (10) and Linux. Has anyone done something similar and what was it that
you did?

I recently set up a Red Hat AS 4 server as a NetWorker Storage Node with our NetWorker server running Solaris 9. I just did a "jbconfig -s servername" on the Linux box and it worked fine. I am using NetWorker 7.4.
