I would recommend mtx.  Something like

        sudo mtx -f /dev/sg0 status | egrep 'IMPORT/EXPORT'

will show you what's in the cap.  Then something like

        sudo mtx -f /dev/sg0 transfer 270 151

to move from absolute port # 270 to absolute port # 151.  Replace sg0
with the appropriate SCSI generic device for your robot.
