Networker 7.1.4 on Solaris 9
Networker 7.3.2 client on Windows 2003
Networker 3.0 Module for Domino on Windows 2003
Lotus Domino 6.5
We're testing transaciton logging in our Domino environment. This is
primarily so we can move to incremental backups rather than do fulls every
night (nearly 1TB nightly for fulls). The incremental backups are working
with no issues and the incrementals are currently about 10% - 20% of the
size of the fulls. Test restores from fulls and incrementals with this
setup are also successful so we know Networker is doing its job.
Our problem is with the amount of time restores take when recovering from
an incremental backup. Yesterday, an incremental took 3 minutes to pull
the full data and 12.5 *hours* to apply the transaction logs. The
transaction logs weren't even from tape (apparently the Domino module is
smart enough to use logs on the disks of the Domino server if they're
still there). Yes, we are aware of the restore differences with
incrementals, but 12.5 hours is pretty obscene for a small file.
So, to any of the Domino folks out there - What are your incremental
restores like? What have you done to tune Domino transaction logging for
Networker backups? Our test box is not that busy but is generating
several 64MB log files per minute. (We are using archive logging, not
circular logging)
I honestly don't believe Networker to be the problem. However, since
we'll get the brunt of the questions on this, I figured I'd ask here
before we go the EMC support route adn our messaging guys go to Lotus.
