Sounds like your 64 bit windows clients are running a 32 bit client.
There are separate special client versions for AMD and intel 64 bit
windows.

Subject: [Networker] SYSTEM DB: backups fail on Windows2003 64 bit OS'es

I have searched this forum over and over again to see if anyone else
experience the problem of Windows 2003 64 bit clients are unable to
backup SYSTEM DB:\ save sets.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions about what we could
do to make it work?

Clients run 7.3.2_Jumbo and 7.3.2_Jumbo_update1 Server (Solaris), sun
7.2.2_Jumbo+hotfix.

Save of SYSTEM DB:\ is OK if I do it from the client, but when issued
from backup server it hangs until timeout.
This is true for new Windows 2003 servers with 64 bit OS.

With kind regards
Johan Robinson
