I have a question concerning Networker DiskBackup (Staging) performance. On
some of our larger servers backups are taking too long so we are looking at
the possibility of using staging to decrease back up times. However, during
some of our preliminary testing, the write speed to the staging disk isn’t
any faster than what we are presently getting writing to tape. There
doesn’t appear to be any obvious way to tweak the settings, but we would
expect backing up directly to disk to be significantly faster than what we
are seeing. Is there anything we can adjust to improve staging performance?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Our present setup is as follows:

The Backup server is a dual processor system with 2 GB of RAM and a 1.5TB
SATA Raid 5 disk system intended for staging. The tape unit is a dual
SDLT320 with a 24-slot tape library. The OS is Windows 2003 with Networker
7.3.2 build 364 installed.

The client servers are Netware 6.5, running Networker client 7.2.

Network connections are full duplex Gigabit ethernet on server and clients.

Thanks!
