[Networker] lengthly restores
2007-03-16 09:56:23
Hello,
Restoring can take longer for multiple reasons.
1. When you backed up you multiplexed servers. (reduce parralism, device
sessions and\or media pools etc-This will come at a cost of posibly
slowing down your backups\devices)
2. When you Restore Networker has to skip over all the data that is not
continious for you to restore, taking longer.
3. If you had that much data, you should consider storage node, also
increasing the restore bandwith temporarily i.e double to two GB links,
wont help that much because networker still needs to demultiplex restore
data.
4. For future either use Disk staging ( dont need twice the amt), set the
rules to stage faster, and break up the server into 2-3 larger saveset
while backup so staging can occour sooner and may be you dont need to
recover everything.
5. Why not recover selectively vs the whole server.
6.For future, if you cannot do storagenode for this client, attempt to
seperate backup links on the server and client to GB and if possible to
Jumbo Frames ( may realise 30-40% backup improvements depending on your
enviroment and architecture)
Thanks
