Hi Ronny,
You may be using all your server parallelism during the backup.
Try to set in the group resource an upper limit for the maximum parallelism
that will leave at least one "free" stream. Even though not specified very
loudly and clear, each of the restore (staging) process(es) will take up one
(save)stream from the total allowed by the "server parallelism".

Subject: [Networker] 7.3.2 and staging

Hi List,

i have installed 7.3.2 (Jumbo Patch 11) on Windows 2003 R2
(Customers choice - not mine).

When a backup is running to an adv device type staging area and
networker starts a automatic or manual staging the server
reports "busy".
I have one pool which contains only the devices of the staging
area and the default pool which are all tapes in the tape library.

The staging from disk to tape occurs from pool "Default Stage" to
"Default".

Here is how to reproduce the error (i opened a case at EMC):

1. Starting a backup to the staging area (i.e. disk):

01/11/07 12:21:44 nsrd: wah-kvasy.wah.hdf:E:\Export saving to pool
'Default Stage' (Stage)

2. Try manual staging operation to Default Pool:

C:\>nsrstage -vv -b "Default" -m -S 2309317115/1168466426
Obtaining media database information on server wah-backup.wah.hdf
Parsing save set id(s)
Migrating the following save sets (ids):
         2309317115
Automatically copying save sets(s) to other volume(s)

Starting migration operation...
NSR server wah-backup.wah.hdf: busy
waiting 30 seconds then retrying

--> Server is busy because the backup to the staging area is running!

3. Stopping the backup (started in (1)):

01/11/07 12:24:14 savegrp: group WAH-KVASY Exporte is being aborted.
01/11/07 12:24:14 savegrp: command 'save -s wah-backup.wah.hdf -g
WAH-KVASY Exporte -LL -f - -m wah-kvasy.wah.hdf -l full -q -W 78 -N
E:\Export E:\Export ' for client wah-kvasy.wah.hdf exited with return
code 1.
01/11/07 12:24:14 savegrp: Log file
C:\Programme\Legato\nsr\tmp\gWAH-KVA000003 is empty.
01/11/07 12:24:14 savegrp: wah-kvasy.wah.hdf:E:\Export unexpectedly exited.
01/11/07 12:24:14 nsrd: savegroup info: WAH-KVASY Exporte is being aborted.

4. Try the staging operation again:

Obtaining media database information on server wah-backup
Parsing save set id(s)
Migrating the following save sets (ids):
         2309317115
Automatically copying save sets(s) to other volume(s)

Starting migration operation...

--> it works!
