The real problem is with laptop/roaming users (i.e. field sales).  They
ususally don't have any other option than to keep data critical to them on
a laptop.  How do you schedule that backup?  How do you throttle it? Where
do they backup to, HQ or closest office?  (Strictly speaking about data
protection here, not security)

I've never tried it, but I've heard good things about the "unison"
synchronization tool.  Seems like it might be useful for this situation.
