Anything in daemon.log ?

A test you can do :

1) Stop via asemgr the tape service
2) manually mount the advfs/ufs FS that contains the /nsr
3) Start nsrd as cluster service by running :

        nsrd -k clutape1
        or in debug :
        nsrd -k clutape1 -d 5

You will get more details about the reason why it fails.

(Then stop and umount before giving control back to asemgr)

I suspect a common problem with the /nsr links vs directory :

Check the /nsr.NetWorker.local and /nsr links

At this point, the NetWorker tape service should be offline.
If not, use 'asemgr' to set the tape service offline.

   If the links are not:
        /nsr-> /nsr.NetWorker.local
        /nsr.NetWorker.local -> /var/nsr

Then correct the links on all cluster nodes by:
        login as root
        # cd /
        # rm nsr.NetWorker.local
        # rm nsr
        # ln -s /var/nsr /nsr.NetWorker.local
        # ln -s /nsr.NetWorker.local /nsr

You can also start the ASE Startup script in verbose mode.

Subject: [Networker] Upgrade of 6.0.2 to 6.1.4 on TruCluster 1.6 won't
start

Hi,

Ok I know its an old version, but it is as new as I can go with my
current
installation :-(

I am trying to upgrade from Networker 6.0.2 to 6.1.4 on Tru64 Unix 4.0G
with TruCluster 1.6.

It is a two member cluster and Networker 6.0.2 is running as a cluster
aware server in a TruCluster member service.

The 6.0.2 installation is working fine and fails over properly between
members.
(I am upgrading to get proper support for LTO-2, and to fix an issue
with
cloning/staging.)

I have installed the 6.1.4 release on my cluster members, and I am
having
the same problem with installation that I have seen with earlier 6.x
releases post 6.0.2.
The software will run fine in a standalone install, but does not want to

start as a cluster member service.
(I am probably missing a step or not interpreting the upgrade
instructions
properly.)

I am following the instructions in the Tru64 Installation Guide for
Tru64
4.0G with TruCluster 1.6.
The instructions describe an upgrade installation from version 5.5.x to
version 6.x but not a version 6.x to 6.x upgrade. However I am assuming
there is no significant difference. (Please advise if there is a
different
set of instructions to follow.)
I shutdown the Networker cluster service with asemgr -x clutape1.
(clutape1
is my service name for Networker.)
I then remove the old software subsets, (setld -d) but select the
options
to keep existing NSR databases etc.
Then I install the new software subsets, (setld -l).
The software installs, and starts up the Networker daemons. I can now
run
nwadmin and connect to the Networker server software.
When I try the next step in the instructions, (which is to restart the
cluster service using asemgr -s clutape1) The system trys to start the
service as normal, but eventually complains about starting the nsrexecd
daemon, then shuts down again.
(I have tried shutting down Networker after the install, then starting
it
as a cluster service, but this has no effect.)

(I have reversed the install back to 6.0.2, and this restarts fine as a
cluster service.)

Do I have to make some alterations to the configuration files inside the

cluster shared disk area for Networker, (as opposed to the new files
installed on local disk on each member server ?)

Can you offer any help ?

Many thanks,

Howard Anderson.
