Olaf,

Ah yes, LTO1 drives.  The drive may be on it's way out.   For our IBM
drives an "E" test may run and pass, yet the drive may peform poorly.

You could move the drive to where another one is (which may involve
some work) and see if the problem follows the drive but it sounds like
you've narrowed it down to drive.   

There are some speed test that our STK tech does that a slow drive may fail.
That said; if you clean the drive and update its firmware and it still 
performs slower than the others it should be replaced.
