Also worth noting that there is a midway price point if you consider
purchasing LTO3 drives but initially using LTO2 media.

An LTO3 drive doesn't cost much more than an LTO2 one  (off my pricelist
from STK at least), probably a bit more in maintenance costs.... But you
can buy your $30 tapes happily until your library fills up and then LTO3
tapes will be cheaper.

Regarding LTO3 pricing, the current figures (see
http://www.issidata.com/shopdisplaycategories.asp?id=173&parent=20) are
about very close to double  the price of LTO2.
If you also consider jukebox licensing prices, storage area, tapes
handling and shipping, as well as jukebox size and floor space needed
you will easily come to the conclusion that the (final/total) price
performance of LTO3 are better than LTO2.
