Here is the problem that backup server encountered last week. It took me a
while and lots of headach to figure it out, thanks to Dan for assisting.
Cause: Presenence of savegrp.txt and emptly savegrp.ext in nsr\bin.
By the way my Networker version is 7.2.1- for Windows 2003.

Subject:

Backup fails with "exec'ing savegrp unknown error 193 (0xc1)" when groups
are started automatically
Note:

Fact: NetWorker for Windows/NT 6.0.2
Fact: Windows NT 4.0 SP 6a
Fact: savegrp started through command line completes without error
Symptom: Error: 'exec'ing savegrp unknown error 193 (0xc1)'
Symptom: Backups started through nwadmin appear to not start
Symptom: Attempts to restart groups in nwadmin state: 'Backup is already
active'
Cause: Invalid PATH configuration, Invalid 'save' or 'savegrp' binary, or
presence of a non-executable file called 'save' or 'savegrp' in \nsr\bin.
Fix: The best way to identify this behavior is to run nsrd and nsrexecd in
debug mode.
The "unkown error" will be seen in the nsrd debug output. To fix this make
sure that the \nsr\bin directory is located at the beginning of the PATH
environment variable. Also make sure that there are no extra files in
\nsr\bin called save or savegrp (other than one copy of save.exe and
savegrp.exe), regardless of the extension of the file.

If the problem still persists, re-install NetWorker to replace the corupt
binaries.
