Yes, that's what I meant. What confused me was the fact that 'date'
shows EDT in the output.

Just to confirm. You keep saying something like "set them to EDT". On
Solaris that would be incorrect. There's no such timezone as "EDT".
You'd set them to "US/Eastern" or to a particular city.
TZ=US/Eastern
If that's what you're doing, I'd assume there's a bug there.
