LTO2 READs LTO1 but does not write to them at LTO1 compression rates
(reliably)...

Just replace the LTO1 with LTO2s. IBM and HP both make LTO2 drives
(maybe others)...

We have had the IBMs but have replaced 6 out of 6 drives to get good
ones. Once you get one that works, they work. But getting that ONE that
works is the magic.

P.S. Just because the LTO2 driver is NEWER does not mean it works better
or even works at all!
