So I'm setting up Networker 7.3 server on RHEL4 and the Install Guide
says that Sun jre 1.5.2_06 is required for RHEL 4. I've downloaded and
installed 1.5.0_06 which appears to be the most current available jre
for Linux on the Sun Java site. Grand.
You mean 1.4.2_06. Isn't it included in the Legato download? That's part
of the reason why it's huge, in comparsion to older releases.
If not, try
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/index.jsp
1.4.2_11 looks to be the latest, and will likely work.
I think I was just seriously confused at the directions of the NW 7.3
Linux Install Guide. Apparently when installing NW 7.3 on a RHEL 4
system that will be both the NMC _server_ and _client you must install
the included 1.4.2_06 jre AND the 1.5.0 jre. The 1.5.0 jre seems to be
required on RHEL4 systems that will be a NWC client but does not seem to
be required on RHEL4 systems that will be a NWC server.
Wow.
Now in reality we don't run a gui or a web browser on our Linux servers.
That's pretty much a Windows concept in my view of the world. ;) So for
RHEL4 and NW 7.3 ignore all the instructions about needing jre 1.5.0 and
install the included jre 1.4.2 as directed.
Then on your NMC 'clinet', presumably a different physical system, fire
up your web browser and connect to http://server.hostname.tld:9000/ and
login as normal. To do this you must be using jre 1.4.2 or for RHEL4
clients jre 1.5.0.
At least that's my current read at untangling the instructions in the
Linux Install Guide. Maybe it was only me, but I hope this helps out
some other RHEL4 user down the road. :)
