How is your drive connected. If you are using Adaptec scsi-adapter it
could be a driver problem. The driver for adaptec commimg with redhat is
to old. You could download the sourcecode vers. 6.3.9 from Adaptec and
compile it into your kernel. It solved all my problem with LTO-2 drives.

Subject: [Networker] IBM Tape driver

Good afternoon to all,

We are having some tape read error issues/problems and according to ADIC
we have to load the tape driver module from IBM.
My Legato server is on Red Hat ES3 v2.4.21-37.0.1.ELsmp O/S and I have
an ADIC Scalar 100 with 2xIBM LTO-2 tape drives. According to Red Hat
support the kernel doesn't have native support on this type of tape
drives so I have to load the driver from IBM. The issue with the driver
is that it is compiled for this kernel version only and when I boot up
on newer kernels from Red Hat the driver won't load.
If anyone is also using the same tape drive I have with the same O/S,
are you indeed using the tape drivers from IBM?

TIA,
