There used to be a patch for the 6.1.3 server(LGTpa52303) Networker 6.1.3 is
no longer officially supported. See below. This info below was taken
before they updated the database (October 2004 timeframe). This info was
printed before Networker 7.3 was released. Hope it helps.

Solution Information

Title:Can NetWorker 7.x client be backed up to a NetWorker 6.x server?
ID:legato37931 Solution Statements

Here is the solution:
NetWorker Support for Newer Client versions and Older Server Versions

If installing the NetWorker 7.x client software into a datazone running an
earlier release of NetWorker server software prior to 6.1.4 (for example, a
NetWorker 6.1.3 server backing up a NetWorker 7.1.x client), a fix
(LGTpa52303) must be obtained from LEGATO Technical Support for the earlier
NetWorker server software. This fix has been incorporated into releases
6.1.4 and later.

A NetWorker 7.x client can back up and recover to an earlier release server
without this fix, although backup failures of the NetWorker 7.x client will
be reported as successful.

There may a be a compromise of functionality. Not all of NetWorker 7.x
features are supported in earlier releases of NetWorker.

This has been documented in the NetWorker 7.1.1 Release Supplement as well.

Here is the problem or goal:
Can NetWorker 7.x client be backed up to a NetWorker 6.x server? Supported
NetWorker 6.x server and 7.x client

Here is the problem environment:
NetWorker 7.x client
NetWorker 6.x server
Upgrade (update) NetWorker 6.x client to NetWorker 7.x
Planning to upgrade NetWorker 6.x datazone servers at a later time Newer
client and older server versions in same datazone

Kathleen,

No, you cannot use a server version that is lower than the client
version. This has always been an unsupported configuration as far as
Legato is concerned, because there are usually differences in the index
database handling between one version and the other.

One other thing we have seen in our environment is that the clients
running pre-7.3.x versions of NetWorker cannot use the admin GUI to see
or control the 7.3 server. You simply get a message indicating that
the admin GUI from the client side could not connect to the 7.3 server.
