Let me pose a rather strange question,

Why migrate?

The old server could be used (even without a license) to do recovery of any
backup made on this platform.

In the mean time step by step start backing up any client from the old server
on the new one (so a new client is defined and the first backup will be a
full one).

Over time all clients will have been migrated to the new server and over time
the old one 'fades away'. After all clients have moved the old server could
be switched off but that will not expire any more tapes so keeping it on and
making sure the index processes run once a week would be a good idea.

Only archives then have to be scanned into the new server if you have them.

Of cource it all depends on the volume of clients and the expire times that
are set on the savesets.

As tapes from the old server start to expire over time they can be reused on
the new (windows) server, if the media is the same for both.

It looks like a more gradual approach (from where I am sitting that is)

Any way, good luck with the project.
