we dont have that problem with SL500 LTO2 and solaris/sparc... so you must
have some sort of configuration issue, perhaps with the linux drivers...

in the meantime a reasonable hack would perhaps be a stop script on the server
that runs nsrjb -H ?? or as an hourly cronjob?

otherwise - it is desirable to leave tapes in drives so that backups can start
quickly and some other reasons. so it would be best if you can fix the
unloading problem if you can.

Thanks for the responses I received. We have a problem with tapes staying in
the drives as it is causing us problems following server reboots. If a tape is
in the drive (mounted but not writing) and the server is rebooted then we
cannot use legato to unmount the tape from the device - it fails with errors.
We have to open the door of the library and use the eject button. Is this
something that we should expect?

We know that the solution is to not reboot the server while tape are mounted
but unfortunately there are times that the server is rebooted. This is a linux
platform with SCSI attached LTO devices.

Mark,

Volumes are only automatically unmounted if
jukebox is shared accross different storage nodes.
If the jukebox is not shared, then, volumes remain
mounted into the drives.

Objet : [Networker] Idle Device Dismount Not working

Hi, our tapes are not automatically dismounted from the tape device
after being used. They stay in the tape device until another tape is
required to be mounted. The idle device dismount has been changed to
2minutes but still no effect. Do you think that the problem lies with
the legato software 7.2.1 or the tape library Storagetek SL500 with two
LTO2 tape devices.

Thanks, mark
