Perhaps you could use something like this (which Davina provided in a post a
few months back):

echo ". type:nsr group;name:mygroup\nupdate schedule:myschedule" | /usr/sbin/n
sradmin -i -
# You can update any other group parameters at the same time, or with
separate commands
echo ". type:nsr group;name:mygroup\nupdate Autostart:start now" | /usr/sbin/
nsradmin -i -

Besides honoring schedules, this approach allows you to stop the savegroup
via the GUI.
