To achieve dd copy, disk size and caracteristics must absolutely be the same
and not in use.
So, offline. If not, filesystem will become corrupted.
As required disk space is the same as for dd than mirror, why not just OS-level
mirror original
disks to new MA8000, then, once sync is done, break the original disks.
Then, rebuild your new disk layout from originam MA8000, mirror it back with
temp disks and
once sync is completed, remove temp disks ?
You can do this online without interrupting service.

One of our Linux gurus came up with a neat trick: zone a LUN from each SAN (old
and new) into a Linux box and use dd. Very low tech. Very effective. Very fast.
