We upgraded from 6.1.3 to 7.2.1 two weeks ago.  It all went smoothly except
for upgrading from 7.2 to 7.2.1 on the server.  I tried installing 7.2.1
several times but the version kept staying at 7.2.  I ended up calling tech
support and we spent a couple hours on the phone getting it straightened
out.  In the end I had to uninstall 7.2, use regedt32 to clear a bunch of
registry entries (see Solution ID: legato7329), then reinstall the 7.2.1
update.  Since then we've had no problems and I think the 7.2.1 backup runs
a little bit faster than the 6.1.3 version.

That said, we're a pretty simple Networker installation. 5 Windows 2K
servers, 1 Windows 2K workstation, 2 Windows NT4 servers, 1 Exchange 5.5
server and 1 Solaris 7 server.  All storage is directly attached to the
servers.

Just yesterday we upgraded our Spectralogic 10K library from AIT-2 to AIT-4.
Boy did that make a difference.  I don't have real good numbers yet but it
looks like it cut our backup time (for a Full) from about 28 hours to 12
hours and that was before we switched the network adapter from 100Mb to a
Gigabit interface today.  I bet we'll be down to 8 hours for a full now.
