Hi,

Take all your backups on advance file type device. Create multiple (2-3)
devices depending on the
performance threshold. For data to be shipped off-site, configure it for
cloning. For disk copies
you can keep a weekly retention period. This would ensure fast backups on
advance file type and
cloning at any time to the tape. Cloning does not require the network or the
clients when cloning
is being done. Staging/Cloning just move backup sets from advance file type to
tape.

I am not too sure about Virtual Tape Library and the licensing required for it.
Why I would prefere
advance file type device is because using advance file type device, you can
backup and if required
restore data at the same time from the same device.

I would check on VTL and send you info. (if possible).

Regards,
Anuj

I'm reading through the disk backup choices and trying to figure out
what would best fit our environment. It sounds like we have three
choices - file devices, advance file type devices, and a virtual tape
library. We'd like to keep our weekly backups on disk while sending a
copy offsite. The offsite copies need to be retained for about a year,
but we could remove the disk copies after about 7 days.

How do I get NetWorker to do this?

Is there an advantage of one type of disk to disk (to tape) backup over
the others?

Thanks.

Teresa
