I regularly see this when I recover windows boxes to different hardware. What you should try next is:

- boot from the Windows CD
- if it asks, say that you want to install Windows and not to repair it
- it should detect your installed Windows and now ask if it should repair it, say yes here

This worked fine several times here. I guess the most important thing is that the HAL does not change. If it was "ACPI multiprocessor", then the new system should also use this HAL.

Our Exchange (2000) server is sitting on the third hardware by now (Intel P3 server -> Intel Xeon server -> Dell 2650) and is still running fine.
