In regard to: [Networker] Networker Versions?, Albert Eddie said (at...:

Networker Versions that are listed in the electronic manual

http://web1.legato.com/cgi-bin/catalog?sf=Releases&level=19-0#19-0

7.0
7.1.1
7.1.2
7.1.3
7.2

It would appear to the new guy in this user's group that 7.2 is the
newest version. But 7.1.3 was released in January vs. December for 7.2.

Both 7.2 and 7.1.3 appear to support the same hardware, why would anyone
stay on the 7.1.x trail vs the 7.2?

It's a question similar to "Why would anyone install Linux kernel 2.4.20
when 2.6.0 is available?", or "Why would anyone install Solaris 8 or 9 now
that Solaris 10 is available?".

If you desperately need some new feature that's in 7.2 that isn't present
in 7.1.x, then 7.2 is for you. If you want something that's ostensibly
stable and in bug-fix mode, 7.1.x is probably better.

The Legato developers don't follow the "no new features" mantra on the
bug-fix development tree as closely as some other packages you may be
familiar with do, though. Even with 7.1.x, they're adding some new
features (and new bugs), though they're generally not the kind of big
features that you see on the latest development line.

Over the years, I've seen many NetWorker administrators publicly state
on this list that they stay away from the first release in any new
development series (7.0, 7.1, 7.2, etc). I'm fairly daring, but with
NetWorker I think I'm in that same camp. ;-)
