All-

Server: NetWorker 7.1.3 + the saveset continuation patch on Red Hat Linux
Clients: various, for this particular issue 7.1.x on Linux and 4.22 on
NetWare 6.5.x.

Management has recently asked me to configure a small group of hosts such
that:

- We always (except perhaps during and immediately after a backup) have
exactly 2*N days of backups for these hosts.

- Not a requirement, but if possible, all 2*N days should be browseable.

In my case, N=7, so I was considering using a schedule something like:

Sun Mon Tues Wed Thur Fri Sat
 F 5 5 5 5 5 5 week 1
 F 5 5 5 5 5 5 week 2
 F 5 5 5 5 5 5 week 3
 F 5 5 5 5 5 5 week 4

(F == days when a full is done, 5 == days when a level 5 is done)

etc. The problem comes on the "level=5" days of week three and later --
For example on Wednesday of week 3, I would need to be able to recover
back to exactly Wednesday of week 1, but that would mean keeping the full
from Sunday of week 1, which violates the "exactly 2N days" policy.

I thought I could accomplish this using scripted saveset consolidation
(turn week 1 Wednesday into a full by using SS consolidation), which I've
never used before, but I just learned in the admin guide that SS
consolidation isn't supported for savesets > 2 GB (all of which these
would be).

That means that my initial idea won't work. The only other possibility I
see is doing a full every night, and keeping exactly 14 fulls. If I can
avoid that, I would choose some other option (even if it means scripting
and/or a more complex configuration).

Anyone else have any suggestions for how I might accomplish this?

Thanks,

Tim
