No, that wouldn't give the results I want. The deal is that the script
restores a specific file from a given client, and then checks that the
restore was successful by testing for the presence of the file in the
temporary directory on the linux client.

Er, OK, there's probably a few solutions. When you restore the file to
the Windows client, you actually restore it to a Samba share hosted on
the Linux box. Or you connect to the Windows box using smbclient to
compare the file. Or the Windows box runs in a VMWare session using a
filesystem on your Linux box. I'm sure there's other ways too.
